Skydiving & Safety
Thanks to a number of developments, the modern skydiving equipment plays a major part in making skydiving a very safe sport.
Yes, you read that right: very safe sport. Parachuting. Because the technology now has some really good tricks for parachutists.
Materials
In general, the modern materials used today in parachute systems are already a first guarantee of safety.

Three-Ring-System
In the parachuting, although there were reserve canopies common quite early it was extremely difficult to successfully separate a non-functioning main canopy. The problem: the amount of drag on the risers may be enormous.
The ingenious idea of the three-ring-system takes up the concept of a pulley and thus reduces the power considerably. Even so far that at the end a small cable is sufficient to hold it in place. This cable can be easily pulled out of the three-ring system in an emergency. The main canopy with its risers flies away and gives way to the reserve.

Automatic opening device for emergencies
Almost all skydivers today use automatic opening device of which the "Cypres" is the most well-known ystem has saved over 2,000 lives worldwide since 1991.
A small computer measures the altitude and the current fall rate several times per second. If the speed is above the limit at a height of 225m, the reserve canopy is automatically activated immediately. In tandem, the limit is even higher at 580m.
Given a common opening height of 1,000m - 1,500m in tandem - you can see: The Cypres is indeed the last resort.

Sky Hook
The latest security system is the so-called Sky Hook. It forms a direct connection between the main canopy and the reserve and thus enables a greatly accelerated opening of the reserve screen: The main canopy flying away acts directly as the opening drogue shute of the reserve.
